Pattern Formation in Diffusion-Limited Reactions

چکیده
The conditions for macroscopic segregation of A and B in a steady-state A + B ---, 0 reaction are studied in infinite systems. Segregation occurs in one and two dimensions and is marginal for d = 3. We note the dependence of these results on the precise experimental conditions assumed in the theory. We also note the difference between these results and our earlier ones for finite systems where the critical dimension is d = 2.

From atomistic lattice-gas models for surface reactions to hydrodynamic reaction-diffusion equations.
Atomistic lattice-gas models for surface reactions can accurately describe spatial correlations and ordering in chemisorbed layers due to adspecies interactions or due to limited mobility of some adspecies. The primary challenge in such modeling is to describe spatiotemporal behavior in the physically relevant "hydrodynamic" regime of rapid diffusion of (at least some) reactant adspecies. For s...
متن کاملPattern Formation of the FitzHugh-Nagumo Model: Cellular Automata Approach
FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) model is a famous Reaction-Diffusion System which first introduced for the conduction of electrical impulses along a nerve fiber. This model is also considered as an abstract model for pattern formation. Here, we have used the Cellular Automata method to simulate the pattern formation of the FHN model. It is shown that the pattern of this model is very similar to those...
متن کاملFront dynamics in catalytic surface reactions
A variety of pattern formation phenomena in catalytic surface reactions can be attributed to the dynamics of interfaces, or fronts, separating distinct uniform states. The states may represent surface coverages by different adsorbates or, in the case of forced oscillations, different phases of oscillation. The dynamics of fronts are strongly affected by front instabilities and by diffusion anis...
متن کاملComparison of models and lattice-gas simulations for Liesegang patterns
For more than a century Liesegang patterns – self-organized, quasiperiodic structures occurring in diffusion-limited chemical reactions with two components – have been attracting scientists. The pattern formation can be described by four basic empirical laws. In addition to many experiments, several models have been devised to understand the formation of the bands and rings. Here we review the ...
متن کاملTuring pattern formation with fractional diffusion and fractional reactions
We have investigated Turing pattern formation through linear stability analysis and numerical simulations in a two-species reaction–diffusion system in which a fractional order temporal derivative operates on both species, and on both the diffusion term and the reaction term. The order of the fractional derivative affects the time onset of patterning in this model system but it does not affect ...
